Based on feedback from family, friends and students, I've launched an eco-friendly line of greeting cards and notepads depicting my original artwork. These products can be found under the Greeting Cards/Artwork section. I'm very excited with this opportunity! Thanks again to all readers for your support and input. ![]() I have always been a beauty fanatic. As a teenager, I spent endless hours roaming department stores and sampling various cosmetics. I enjoyed trying new cosmetics and body lotion. However, I was always wary of the synthetic ingredients used on most traditional cosmetics and bodycare products. As the eco-friendly trend continues to transform the cosmetics industry in the US marketplace, it is always exciting to learn and try new products. I have recently tried Shea Terra Organic Rose Water Ester-C Facial Mist. This 99.5% natural mist can be used throughout the day to refreshen your face. I love the fact that it contains a vitamin C derivative. As you may know, most cosmetic products that contain vitamin C can literally cost upwards of $100. However, this generous 4 oz bottle is only $17. Shea Terra Organics source their products from Africa. By purchasing African ingredients at fair trade prices, they have helped numerous African villages maintain a stable source of income. Equally impressive, Shea Terra Organics founder, Tammie Umbel, who fulfilled her lifelong dream of helping African villages, is able to juggle managing a great organic bodycare company while she lives on an organic farm in Virginia raising 12 children with her husband. ![]() I have gotten my oil paintings in an exhibit show. I am very excited about it. Here is one of my oil paintings that is on display. I love playing with the oil textures and colors. As with every aspect in my life, I've researched what would be the most eco-friendly approach to painting and found that there isn't really a lot of eco-friendly options right now. I've contacted a number of art supply companies to encourage them to produce recycled canvases and more eco-friendly art supplies. I encourage you to do the same with any company in which you are a customer, because my many years of marketing have taught me that yes, indeed, companies pay attention to their customers and review their customer service reports with a lot of scrutiny (at least the best companies do). If you are interested in purchasing any of my oil paintings, please enter your contact information under the contact us section of this website. 50% of my proceeds are donated to environmental causes. ![]() My kids do not like drinking plain milk. They love getting their dairy intake from cheese, yogurt and ice cream. For some reason, I am always adamant about them getting enough milk in their systems. I've come across Cacao Power Chocolate Nibs from www.navitasnaturals.com. By adding a few of these nibs into their milk, they are transformed into milk lovers! Navitas Naturals cacao beans are hand selected for quality, partially fermented to alleviate bitterness, and processed at low temperatures for maximum nutrient retention. Navitas Naturals Sweet Cacao Nibs contain 100% organic ingredients that are kosher, gluten-free, vegan, and raw. In addition to cacao products, Navita Naturals offer superfood products which include gogi berries, cacao, flax, acai and many more. www.navitasnaturals.com is a green business, supporting fair-trade policies and sustainable agriculture. Their foods are certified organic, gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, raw, and certified kosher. At www.babystar.com, you can purchase the totes on sale until March 3rd, 2010. Every year I organize a mini-Easter egg hunt for my children. I reuse the plastic Easter eggs that I bought about three years ago. It's actually quite easy to store the plastic eggs away (the key to organization is to have a clearly labelled plastic container and to store the items based on the holiday immediately after the event, so you don't forget). For those of you who are interested in buying new plastic eggs, consider purchasing them from your local Goodwill store. When I dropped off a donation recently I saw non-clothes items on sale (from other donors) and the store clerk said that people do not realize that Goodwill takes alot of different donations beyond your basic clothes. Goodwill takes furniture, books, household items, kitchen/baking items among others. Please keep this in mind before you throw out your next batch of castaways. Please be sure to ask for a tax donation receipt and they will provide it to you. It's great to file the receipts away in a tax folder for tax filing purposes. All donations are tax deductible (for more about tax deductions contact your financial advisor or accountant). Also for senior citizens, I think they offer a percent discount (up to 50% off all items), so keep this in mind and share this information with your senior friends. Please visit their website at www.goodwill.org to find the local store near you. ![]() Just when I felt that my son was growing up too fast, he surprised me by shouting with delight when I gave him a babystar soy organic blanket (although he is too old for a blanket I caved in, because he was jealous of his younger sister's blankie inflatuation). The soy organic blanket is soft and warm or as he would describe it, the blanket is cuddly. Babystar.com offers a number of great organic baby/toddler clothing and blankets. For 20% discount enter the following code: star20. This offers expires 12/31/2010. For more product information, please visit. www.babystar.com. Right now until the end of February, you can get free shipping with your purchase using the following code "HEART" at the checkout page. ![]() I'm staying on track with my 2010 goal of training for my first race this year. Yesterday I ran 12 min/mile for 3 miles on a treadmill (hey, we all have to start somewhere). I am thinking of a 5K race in early fall. That way, I can have plenty of time to train and improve on my time (hopefully without too much pain). Anyway, I felt really sore this morning so I needed to rest today and do some yoga. www.goKalyx.com offers nice and comfortable 100% organic cotton T shirts. The T shirts are soft and cut slightly longer than other T shirts (the longer length creates a very flattering figure and it automatically lengthens the torso). I love the sweet sage Yoga T shirt shown here. They also come in other inspirational colors with words such as "Race," "Ride," "Drive," "Surf" and "Chill." From now through March 31st, you can receive an awesome deal, a 20% discount on your entire order (for all of their products) by entering the following discount code "Eco20" at www.goKalyx.com.
